Socio/Economic Impact of Slavery in North and South: In the North slaves were treated generally less harshly than in the South. In some places in the North Slaves were treated with “parental kindness.” The rules in the South were overall stricter and in some areas of the North the rules were more lenient. Economically slavery was one of the most if not the most important aspects of Southern income, because of the South heavy agricultural base slavery made huge profit for the South. America at this time was one of the main providers of cotton and slavery was the most profitable way to do it. Also with the cotton gin cleaning made the process faster and then increased the need for slaves.
