Manifest Destiny was a term used to describe the attitude of American settlers took as they tried to colonize to the Atlantic Ocean. American settlers believed that they were destined to settle through the entire continent. This attitude was the driving force in America’s western expansion. Some famous examples of trails and parties that were driven by Manifest Destiny are the Oregon Trail, and Donner Party. This western expansion lasted from about 1812 to 1860. Settlers wanted to redeem and remake the land they settle in the image of the United States. The Settler’s drive to colonize The West was strengthened with the discovery of gold in California.
