Economic Differences between North and South: Unlike the North the South had a better climate for crops and the need for labor in the South caused slavery to become a vital part of the southern economy. The North was much more heavily based on manufacturing and having a large infrastructure although agriculture was a small part of the North economy. With the North having a much better infrastructure (weapons, railroads, and easier communication) they could move troops much faster than the South could and that is one of the main reasons the North won the civil war. During and after the Civil War the price of the Confederate Dollar steadily dropped. The production of the confederate dollar also declined, unlike the union currency, which rose in price and production overall.
